Best Start for Beginners in Rise of Kingdoms
Starting in Rise of Kingdoms can be overwhelming, but following the right path can make your progression smooth and effective. Here are the essential tips and priorities for new players.
1. Focus on the Right Commanders
As a beginner, you should invest your sculptures and experience books into key epic commanders. The best early game commanders include:
- Boudica Prime – Excellent for PvE and barbarian hunting.
- Sun Tzu – Great for AOE damage and defense.
- Joan of Arc – Provides amazing buffs in early battles and farming.
Don’t waste sculptures on legendary commanders too early. Epic commanders are faster to max and more than enough for early growth.
2. The Power of Barbarian Farming
Defeating barbarians gives you speedups, experience, and resources. One of the best ways to farm XP early is using Lohar as primary commander. The commander behind Lohar gains full XP too, so always put a secondary commander you want to level up.
Use action point potions wisely during events to double your rewards while farming barbarians.
3. Gather Resources Constantly
One of the biggest bottlenecks in the game is resources. Make sure to:
- Build at least 3–4 gathering commanders early (like Constance, Joan of Arc, Gaius Marius).
- Level them up and max their gathering talents.
- Always have your marches gathering on the map — never keep them idle!
Farming is essential for tech upgrades, troop training and building. It may not look exciting, but it’s key to long-term progress.
4. Upgrade Your VIP and Buildings Wisely
Save gems to reach VIP 6 as soon as possible — this unlocks the second builder, drastically increasing your growth speed. Prioritize upgrading your City Hall and resource buildings in parallel with training centers (Barracks, Archery Range, etc.).
5. Join an Active Alliance
Your alliance is your safety, support, and progression booster. Good alliances give you:
- Alliance technology buffs
- Help with building and research timers
- Access to Alliance territory and resources
- Better rewards from alliance events
Try to stay with a growing alliance, contribute to its development, and be active in their chats and rallies.
6. Don’t Rush Your Power
Power looks flashy, but rushing it early is a trap. You’ll get stronger by growing smart — not fast. Training too many low-tier troops or overbuilding without tech means you’ll get stuck later.
Instead, focus on research, commanders, and resource flow. Your true power will come from having high-tech and high-efficiency, not just numbers.
7. Use Events to Your Advantage
Events are the best way to earn speedups, gems, legendary commander sculptures, and more. Watch for events like:
- Strategic Reserve – Barbarian-focused
- More Than Gems – Best time to spend gems for huge returns
- Power Up Events – Rewards for upgrading buildings or troops
Save your resources and action points for events. With good planning, you can progress far faster by syncing your actions with the active calendar.
8. Unlock and Level Your Academy & Expedition
The Expedition system gives you daily medals and rewards, and lets you unlock Aethelflaed, one of the strongest free legendary commanders. She’s amazing in PvE and PvP support.
Work on completing expedition missions daily and leveling up your Castle to prepare for T4 and T5 troops in the future.
9. Use Lohar Strategically for XP Boosting
Lohar gives you a massive XP bonus (+70%) to both him and your secondary commander. Use him as the primary when defeating barbarians and always pair him with commanders you want to level.
He’s especially powerful during Lohar’s Trial event where you farm “bone necklaces” to earn more of his sculptures and rewards.
10. Long-Term Thinking Wins
Rise of Kingdoms is not a sprint — it’s a marathon. Don’t get distracted by leaderboard chases or rush buildings for looks. Instead, focus on:
- Commander quality, not quantity
- Efficient gathering and research
- Daily action point usage
- Event participation and alliance support
The best players are those who understand the game’s rhythm and play consistently.
